AHDB Pork is offering free foot dip signs for producers to use to help reduce the risk of disease spread by encouraging visitors to dip before entering a unit and reminding staff to do the same when moving between sheds.
“With the threat of exotic and emerging diseases such as African Swine Flu (ASF) and Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea Virus (PEDv), biosecurity on farm is becoming more and more important,” said AHDB Pork technical veterinary team manager, Martin Smith.
“We felt, therefore, that the foot dip signs would work well alongside the popular no entry gate signs already produced by AHDB Pork.”
Putting up signs to encourage best practice is simple and cost effective, he added, and can be really beneficial in stopping disease from entering a unit or spreading from one unit to another.
“I’d strongly advise producers to take all the precautionary steps possible to maximise productivity and maintain the health and welfare of their stock,” said Mr Smith.
To request a free sign, producers should either email Pork.KT@ahdb.org.uk or call 0247 647 8792.
