The National Pig Awards is designed to promote and reward excellence throughout the entirety of our industry. Therefore, it’s only right we have an award for the suppliers that contribute so much to the pig sector. Unlike any other award within the scheme, this one is voted for by you – the readers of Pig World. But, voting closes at midday on October 5, 2015.
It’s the opinion of the organisers of the awards that one of the fundamental aspects of being an award-worthy supplier to the industry is the support of the NPA. Therefore, this supplier award is called the NPA AIG Member of the Year.
The NPA has provided a shortlist of suppliers and it’s now over to you to choose a winner. The poll opens is open now, and voting is possible for one month. Please visit the address below now and vote for your winner.
The winner of the 2014 NPA AIG Member of the Year was Bishopton Veterinary Group. Nigel Woolfenden (above left) is pictured recieving his award from the NPA’s Howard Revell
The shortlisted suppliers, and supporting comments provided by the NPA, based on the nominations received, are as follows:
John Harvey Engineering
John Harvey Engineering has been producing outdoor livestock equipment for more than 20 years and is one of the most creative and dynamic suppliers in the sector – always looking to improve products with research, creativity and a strong understanding of the pigs and stockpeople’s needs.
It endeavours to make equipment easy to assemble and easy to use. Safety is also of paramount importance – both for the animal and the farmer.
John Harvey is also a big supporter of the industry and cares passionately for all involved in the sector.
Farmex
Farmex, through Hugh Crabtree and, until his untimely death, Nick Bird, has continuously encouraged the industry to “monitor so that it may manage”. Not only that but it has also provided a degree of “linkage” into the building companies. Determined that one day we should match “Chicken George” in the drive for efficiency through the use of monitoring, many businesses have benefited from Farmex advice.
At another level, Hugh has, of course, chaired the NPA AIG for two terms, and been vice-chairman of the NPA.
Farmex has been long-time supporters of LIPS, helping it to become established many years ago.
And Finally, of course, Hugh has been an absolute stalwart of the British pig industry campaigns, whether instigating and organising a campaign (Winnie, Stand by Your Ham and so on) or fully and enthusiastically supporting just about every other campaign there has ever been.
