The new head of industry development at Quality Meat Scotland (QMS) is Douglas Bell, who joins the promotion and marketing body after leading the farm policy unit at SAC Consulting, part of Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC).
Mr Bell, who takes over from Johnny Mackey at QMS, has 30 years’ experience of delivering high level management advice and training to the agricultural sector, having been involved in a wide range of consultancy and project design activities. He also has a “hands-on” involvement with the industry through his running of the family farm in Lanarkshire.
“Industry development activities are an important area of our workload,” said the body’s chief executive, Uel Morton, welcoming Mr Bell as someone who will add a “wealth of experience, as well as core skills” to the QMS staff team.
“We are very encouraged by the strong interest we see from farmers in grassroots activities aimed at improving the profitability, sustainability and confidence of the Scottish meat industry.”
Mr Bell (pictured above) will take up his new role at the end of October.
