The EU’s provision of private storage aid (PSA) for pigmeat will open for applications on January 4, according to the National Pig Association (NPA).
First announced during the early September farm crisis meetings in Brussels, PSA will finally become available to the industry during the first week of 2016.
“The scheme will cite a minimum quantity of at least 10 tonnes for boned products and 15 tonnes for other products,” said NPA, adding that this will be “formally adopted” in the next two weeks.
The clearance to go-ahead with PSA follows the official approval of the measure by EU member states.
