Meat and Livestock Commercial Services Ltd (MLCSL), who carry out carcase classification and dressing inspection for the UK’s red meat abattoirs, has appointed Christine Walsh as its managing director.
A wholly-owned subsidiary of the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB), the business is responsible for classifying around 85% of British pigs, 90% of cattle and 90% of sheep.
Ms Walsh, who took up her new post on February 1, said: “My task is to enable the business to increase sales and to improve operational cost-efficiency, whilst also developing staff to capitalise on opportunities now and in the future, as our marketplace changes and adopts new technologies.”
Having started in the red meat sector in 2006 with the Red Meat Industry Forum, she joined EBLEX (now AHDB Beef & Lamb) in 2012 as supply chain and business development manager, becoming responsible for delivering a number of UK projects on red meat labelling, environmental footprint and industry sustainability. Ms Walsh also worked on other projects in partnership with the Food Standards Agency, Environment Agency and the European Livestock and Meat Trades Union (UECBV).
