Seven new students have joined the Pig Industry Scholarship scheme, based at Harper Adams University, with each fresh recruit being set to join their sponsoring companies in the summer for a 12-month placement.
Created to attract and retain the “best young brains in the pig industry”, the scheme is now in its third year, a fact celebrated by scholarship chairman, Nick Major, of ForFarmers, when he awarded certificates of achievement to current scholars.
“It is vital for the future of the industry that we are able to attract highly skilled and motivated people into it and this scheme has already helped us to achieve that objective,” he said.
Two of the scheme’s 2013 scholars have already been awarded final-year funding and will be returning to their sponsoring companies on graduation.
“I would like to thank the sponsoring companies, without whom we would not be able to offer these excellent opportunities,” said Mr Major.
