The pig industry is under tremendous pressure at the moment, but there are opportunities ahead, as visitors to the British Pig & Poultry Fair will discover.
Speakers in the popular forum programme include award-winning farmers, market analysts and technical specialists, who’ll share a wealth of insight and ideas to help producers plan ahead.
“We’ll also hear from a great line up of speakers on how farmers can drill down to find those precious marginal gains in performance to improve profitability,” fair organiser Alice Bell said.
ABN, which is supporting the event, will be explaining how the feed supply chain can work together to drive innovation and improve performance on farm. In the afternoon session, meanwhile, AHDB Pork and two pig producers will share how data management systems can help identify marginal gains, control production costs and prepare businesses for the future.
Simon Watchorn, who breeds and finishes 15,500 outdoor RSPCA Assured pigs a year in Norfolk, will be taking to the platform to explain how he uses data management to make small improvements to performance.
“My Agrosoft programme is my most useful piece of technology,” he said. “It measures and records everything so I can tell where potential problems are.”
