African Swine Fever (ASF) will be a priority issue on the agenda for discussion in Poland tomorrow when the European Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, Vytenis Andriukaitis, is due to meet Poland’s Health Minister, Konstanty Radziwiłł, and Agriculture Minister, Krzysztof Jurgiel.
Mr Andriukaitis (pictured above) is visiting Warsaw to hold a Citizens’ Dialogue event entitled “Healthy Investments in Growth – Poland in the EU”.
In addition to witnessing Minister Radziwiłł being given a very public vaccination against seasonal flu, the Commissioner is to hold talks with Minister Jurgiel, with ASF top of their discussion list. Mr Andriukaitis is also due to attend the Polish Government’s ASF inter-ministerial meeting, which is scheduled for Friday.
The latest Defra report on ASF in Poland, dated August 15, revealed that there were eight new disease outbreaks in domestic pigs since the previous update on the June 27, involving a total of almost 900 pigs shred between large and small scale units.
