The re-appointing of nine members of the Farm Animal Welfare Committee (FAWC) has been welcomed by NPA, especially the removing of previous concerns about the future of the committee.
“We are pleased that FAWC will continue in its valuable role of providing independent advice on the important issue of farm animal welfare,” said NPA chief executive, Zoe Davies, responding to a statement on FAWC issued by Defra.
“The Government shares the public’s high regard for animal welfare and I am proud that the UK has some of the highest welfare standards in the world,” said the UK’s Animal Welfare Minister, Lord Gardiner.
“The Farm Animal Welfare Committee provides invaluable expertise to support Government policy in England, Scotland and Wales. I am delighted to be able to confirm these re-appointments.”
