Dawn Meats’ operations director Isla Roebuck has been elected the new president of the British Meat Processors’ Association.
Roebuck was voted in last Wednesday at the BMPA’s AGM, and has formerly served as president of the Scottish Association of Meat Wholesalers and as a board member of Quality Meat Scotland.
In a letter to members, passed to Pig World, Roebuck thanked the industry for electing him to the role:
“I just wanted to write to you all to say how proud and privileged I feel to have been elected President of the BMPA at the AGM on Wednesday.
“As an industry, we have a massive challenge ahead, largely driven by Brexit but also influenced by some long-standing issues which we need to change if we’re to move forward – both individually and as an association.
· Our relationship with the UK’s regulators
· Anti-meat lobby groups (and worse)
· The appalling lack of knowledge most consumers have concerning where our food comes from
“These are just three, there are many others.
“We already have a strong BMPA structure and a solid platform on which to build for the future but we need to be clear-thinking and determined if we’re to make the very most of our resources.
“In short, we need to start speaking louder than we have in the past. We need to make our voice heard over the next few years – as never before.”
