Pig sector research is being stepped up in Canada with seven provincial pork associations giving their backing to a funding increase for the country’s Swine Cluster 2 programme: “Driving Results through Innovation, 2013-2018”.
The new funding, announced by Swine Innovation Porc (SIP), is worth the equivalent of £1.3 million and lifts the total funding now available to the programme to more than £9 million.
“This funding signifies a national and collaborative approach in supporting research activities for the Canadian swine sector,” said SIP. “In addition, it will give SIP the financial flexibility to quickly respond to emerging issues that directly affect swine producers in Canada, such as the Porcine Epidemic Diarrhoea concern.
“It will also be used in activities related to the transfer of technical knowledge, so that innovative technologies will reach pork producers at the farm level.”
The seven associations are:
- Alberta Pork
- Les Éleveurs de porcs du Québec
- Manitoba Pork
- New Brunswick Pork
- Ontario Pork
- PEI Pork
- Sask Pork
