Richard deals with the ever-present threat of disease and its possible devastating impact on the British pig industry. He also repeats a comment from an NPA member which rather “says it all”.
Q1 – What was your pig sector highlight/lowpoint of 2014?
“That we kept PEDv and ASF out of UK pigs.”
Q2 – What do you most hope will be achieved by UK pig producers in 2015?
“Simply that we continue to keep PEDv, ASF and all exotic diseases out of UK pigs.”
Q3 – What one pig industry experience did you enjoy most in 2015?
“Being told by a member that the NPA doesn’t do what is easiest, it does what is right.”
Q4 – Free pig sector comment – something you feel strongly about.
“Regarding exotic disease, the UK Government and Brussels each have a responsibility for keeping disease out of the UK but so do UK pig producers. We also have a responsibility of ensuring disease doesn’t get onto our farms. If we achieve this in 2015 we will also keep other endemic diseases out.”
