A new multi-functional drinking water disinfectant and acidifier for use in weaner units has been launched by DuPont.
Called Virkon H2O, the product is designed to promote good piglet performance during the often stressful weaning period by killing major disease-causing pathogens such as campylobacter, salmonella, E-coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, which can be present in the drinking waterline.
DuPont reported that independent studies, carried out to approved European test standards, had shown Virkon H2O to be effective against these key pathogens at a dilution rate of 1:800.
The company also said the product works to protect the well-being of piglets that can be compromised by the rapid spread of disease-causing pathogens through drinking water systems during weaning.
