A British pig sector trade mission, targeting the 100,000-tonne-a-year pigmeat market in the Philippines, identified “scope for expansion”, according to joint-organisers BPEX and UK Trade and Industry (UKTI).
“There is already some pigmeat being exported there but it is a growing economy and there is scope to expand that trade,” said BPEX export marketing manager, Jonathan Eckley (pictured).
“We have been working with UKTI locally and the mission included a visit to a cold store, a cutting plant, a wet market and retailers. This was followed by a ‘meet the buyer’ session, attended by 20 Filipino companies which included some of the country’s leading meat importers. The business-to-business meetings were extremely successful.”
Mr Eckley also said there were a “great many inquiries” and that he was hopeful the mission would result in enhancing the trade between the UK and the Philippines.
