An international symposium on recent advances in food animal welfare during transport, marketing and slaughter is to be held in Zagreb, Croatia, next year.
Organised by the Humane Slaughter Association (HSA) and scheduled for July 16 and 17, 2015, the event already has a high level line-up of speakers from the US, UK, Africa and the European Commission. An invitation has also been issued for anyone wishing to make a contribution to the symposium to submit presentation and poster abstracts by November 26, 2014.
HSA says the event is an opportunity to examine recent scientific and technological advances, study the uptake of advances around the world, identify future priorities and provide a forum for sharing information and experiences.
Keynote speakers will include Prof. Yvonne Thaxton, director of the Center for Food Animal Wellbeing at the University of Arkansas; Dr Mara Miele, reader at the Cardiff School of Planning and Geography; Tozie Zokufa, programme manager for Africa at Humane Society International and Dr Andrea Gavinelli, Head of the Animal Welfare Unit at the European Commission.
