The pig sector will benefit from high-quality training opportunities thanks to cash secured by the AHDB from the EU’s Regional Development Programme for England.
Building on a similar programme delivered by AHDB in 2013, the new funding, which includes a 30% contribution from private industry, will see £130,000 spent to increase opportunities across the pig and poultry industries to reduce the effect of endemic diseases through collaborative working.
This England-wide initiative will be delivered through a 10-month programme of workshops and seminars. The work will focus particularly on welfare and include: elements on environmental enrichment; training for abattoir lairage staff, inc pig handling and euthanasia; whole-chain contingency planning; training of non-specialist vets working with pigs; and rodent control training.
