The persistent rainfall and extensive flooding in the South-west has forced straw prices in the area higher this week.
Figures produced by the British Hay & Straw Merchants’ Association (BHSMA) show the price of big square bale barley straw increased by £13 to £70/t for the week ended February 16, while big square bale wheat straw was £10 higher at £60/t.
The BHSMA put the sharp increase down to the appalling weather conditions the South-west is currently experiencing.
