Firefighters from Essex County Fire & Rescue Service were called to a fire involving a large agricultural building in Harlow yesterday, where farm owners released around 100 pigs before the emergency services arrived.
The building, which measured approximately 50m x 25m, was completely on fire when firefighters arrived and firefighters worked quickly to set up a good water supply to protect a number of nearby outbuildings.
Essex County Fire & Rescue Service said the barn also contained around 40 tonnes of straw which crews have surrounded and allowed to burn out under their control.
At 3pm, the incident was scaled down to just four engines. The cause of the fire is not known at this stage and an investigation has been launched.
