Nuffield Farming Scholarships are encouraging prospective scholars to apply for the life-changing opportunity, as the July 31st deadline for applications approaches.
“We welcome applications from individuals connected with agricultural, horticultural and land-based sectors, and are looking for forward thinking and innovative candidates, especially those who are committed to driving change in their industries,” says Nuffield director Mike Vacher.
Nuffield Scholarships are awarded annually and offer an opportunity for individuals to learn and explore topics of interest in the UK and abroad.
“The Scholarship lasts a total of 18 months and within that time period we expect Scholars to travel internationally for at least eight weeks,” adds Mike. “It provides the opportunity for Scholars to stand back from their day-to-day occupation and typically provokes an assessment of a business or role within an organisation.”
The Scholarships offered by Nuffield are widely recognised across agricultural and associated sectors and many describe their award as being a turning point in their life, from which they have introduced major changes into their business or role. However, the learning doesn’t stop there.
“Nuffield is a life journey,” says Mike. “It opens doors that would not otherwise have been accessible – and after the 18-month study period many continue to carry on the journey by attending regional and sector specific group meetings, where knowledge, experiences and information is shared freely between likeminded Scholars.”
Applications are invited from individuals who are under 45-years old, are three years or more post tertiary education, have been engaged in farming, rural land-based industries, food industries or agriculturally associated industries for at least two years, and intend to remain in these industries.
The application process is straightforward and requires one online form to be submitted (available from www.nuffieldscholar.org). Prospective Scholars do not need academic qualifications and dedicated pig sector awards are available. The deadline to apply is July 31, 2013.
