Red Tractor has clarified the requirements around the new welfare training module that will become a part of the pig standards later this year.
The new UK Pig industry Training platform module, which is being developed by AHDB, is expected to be launched in the autumn. Scheme members will then have three months to complete the training from the launch date.
Under the recently-announced changes to the Red Tractor pigs scheme, which come in from November 1, all people involved in the care of pigs on the unit will need to have completed all available mandatory modules on the training platform. Some scheme members have been seeking clarity on the requirement, including how to access it.
Georgina McDowell, Red Tractor technical manager (pigs), explained that the module has not been launched yet.
“We were expecting it to be launched by the end of July – however, there have been some delays as more development and testing is needed. We anticipate that the module will be launched in the autumn.
“The key point to stress is that the requirement is for the training to be completed within three months of the module being launched, not by November 1.”
Once it has been launched, the training will be available here: https://ahdbpork.vbms.co.uk/store
