Pig businesses are being urged to respond to a survey gathering data to inform policy labour shortages in the UK food supply chain.
The Independent Review into Labour Shortages Review will draw together data on the nature and scale of labour shortages, consider how automation and domestic and migrant labour can contribute to tackling labour shortages and make recommendations to Government. Its purpose is to inform understanding of challenges within the various sectors of farming, including pigs and meat processing.
- You can access the survey HERE
- The survey is open until midnight on November 21.
Information will be stored securely, anonymised and collated in a report such that businesses and individuals cannot be identified.
Chaired by John Shropshire, farmer and Chair of Gs, and supported by an Expert Panel, the review was announced under the Food Strategy in August 2022 to tackle labour shortages in the food supply chain.
NPA chief executive Lizzie Wilson said: “Labour shortages continue to be an issue across the pig industry, including at farm level and in meat processing plants.
“We need action from Government and by responding, members can be provide comprehensive and robust data to the Review Panel to highlight the issues many businesses face and make the case for change.”
