Rugby World Cup winner and well-respected pundit Matt Dawson will host the National Pig Awards later this month after original host Eammon Holmes was forced to pull out.
With 77 caps, including captaining the side 9 times, Matt Dawson is England’s most capped scrum half, and was part of the England squad that won the 2003 World Cup.
He subsequently became a familiar face as a team captain on BBC’s ‘A Question of Sport’ and continues to perform as a rugby commentator and journalist, working for BT Sport and BBC 5 Live.
TV presenter Eamonn Holmes was due to present the awards, which will take place in London, but had to pull out after a fall at home left him badly injured.
“We, of course, wish Eamonn well and look forward to him making a speedy recovery, but we are delighted to be able to welcome Matt Dawson as a very able replacement,” Pig World publisher Simon Lewis said.
Tickets available
Tickets are still available for the pig industry’s big night of the year. The awards, now in their ninth year, will continue to recognise excellence and innovation in British pig production, with 15 National Pig Awards to be handed out, along with the Chris Brant and David Black Awards.

Simon Lewis said: “This has become one of the most eagerly anticipated nights of the pig industry calendar and we look forward to seeing people there from right across our industry. In another challenging year, this will be an opportunity for everyone to come together, enjoy a good night and celebrate those who are achieving great things in the pig sector and setting examples for others to follow.”
