Defra has published fresh guidance for the next round of animal health and welfare grants in England , with the window for applications expected to open soon.
Under the scheme, farmers can apply for grants of between £1,000 and £25,000 for 50% of the cost of various items from the Farming Equipment and Technology Fund (FETF) 2024.
There are various items available for pig farmers, including electronic pig weighing and sorting facilities, slatted floor inserts, curtain systems, enrichment toys and more.
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak told the recent NFU conference that around £220 million will be injected into FETF in the current financial year, a big increase from £91m last year to meet farmer demand.
He said the fund will ensure farmers can access new equipment, including kit which increases automation to reduce reliance on overseas workers.
