In the latest issue of Pig World, new Young NPA vice chair Emma Wormington sets out changes to membership of the organisation that brings young pig industry people together and its plans for the future.
Exciting times ahead for the YNPA group. For those of you who don’t know us yet, Lee Thompson and I are joint vice chairs for Young NPA. Lee works for Quality Equipment, and I am a pig key account manager at Zoetis.
As we are fast approaching the final quarter of the year, we are looking ahead to our annual YNPA National event. This year, we are taking it to the beautiful city of York on Tuesday, November 28.
The focus of the meeting will be on the future of the British pig industry. We will be joined by several presenters, all of which are active members of YNPA and come from right across the industry, including producers, processors and representatives of marketing, pharmaceutical and genetics companies.
It is set to be a fantastic day of debate and discussion, where the next generation of the industry will have a say on their vision.
Shaping the future of the pig industry is a consistent theme running throughout our discussions and plans.
Following the National in November, we are planning a series of regional evening meetings in early 2024. These events will aim to bring people together, to not only share knowledge and learn new things, but to make new friendships and have fun.
During the recent NPA Pig Industry Group (PIG) meeting, we had the opportunity to share our ideas for the future and to gain feedback from key members of the pig industry on how we can continue to grow and add value to YNPA. We were delighted with the feedback and support from the group.
This is now an opportunity for you to help decide how you would like to see this group develop and as part of our focus around ‘shaping the future’, we will be continuing to reach out to the industry for feedback and ideas for future events.
As part of our focus around adding value to the YNPA group, there will be a nominal £20 annual fee from January 1, 2024. This will allow for additional benefits, which will include annual subscription to Pig World.
All current members will need to complete the new membership application form and submit it to Andrea by email – andrea.tranter@npanet.org.uk – no later than December 1 if you wish to remain in YNPA past December 31, 2023.
Lee and I are dedicated to making a difference and playing a part in making the pig industry a sustainable, profitable and exciting place to be for the future. To sign up to be a YNPA member, or if you have any feedback and ideas for future events, get in touch with us – emma.wormington@zoetis.com and l.thompson@quality-equipment.co.uk.
