Summary
Yorkshire Farmers Livestock Marketing Ltd, based in Malton (North Yorkshire) is seeking an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to join our professional team for a full-time position looking after our Technical Services department. The role will be mainly focussed on environmental permitting (particularly pigs and poultry, but also a range of other permitting projects such as for on-farm AD plant, flood risk activity, feed mill). Full training will be provided.
The role will initially be for maternity cover for our Technical Director, Lizzie Bentley, from June/July 2025 onwards, after a period of full training and handover of current projects. There is then an option for a permanent position to enable the growth of our Technical Services department and future expansion of our services.
The skills we are looking for in you:
· Qualified to degree level in an agricultural or environmental course (or with a suitable period of experience in a relevant role)
· Excellent writing and communication skills
· Excellent time management skills, ability to organise tasks and meet deadlines
· Keen attention to detail
· Familiarity with farming systems and compliance record keeping (ideally with some experience of the pig and/or poultry sectors, though not essential)
· To be highly self-motivated and capable of working with a high degree of autonomy, while also being able to work as part of a small team
· Capable of maintaining long term relationships with the existing client base while also generating new business
· Ambition to drive the business forward and provide the highest quality service to our clients and members
· IT literate
· Car owner with a full UK driving licence
The successful applicant will be primarily office-based in Malton, but with regular farm visits and with opportunities to attend training and networking events. They will also be heavily involved in business planning including strategy development, risk management, budgeting and marketing to develop this arm of the business further while ensuring high quality service to our customers.
A key part of the role will be to explore streamlining the process of drawing up application documents such as environmental risk assessments and site layout and drainage maps and exploring how AI and software can be utilised.
To give further variety to the role, the candidate will also be involved on occasion in supporting farm assurance and customer-specific compliance for our own farms, members and clients – as well as supporting buyers with tracing compliance evidence/data across full supply chains.
Conclusion
Consultancy work for the pig and poultry industry in particular has expanded considerably in the last few years, particularly in relation to Environmental Permitting Regulations. To facilitate the growing need for our services and to develop this arm of the business further, we see a fantastic opportunity for someone to join our friendly team and work with farmers from all over the country (mainly within the pig and poultry sectors) as well as the Environment Agency, ecologists, planning consultants and ammonia modelling consultants.
