Following another quiet week, the Pig Marketing Summary from Thames Valley Cambac, said the market can best be described like the early reports of the harvest… very ordinary!
All processors with their own elements within the price stood on but there was a sense of reluctance from them. Some processors were more than happy to have supply numbers reduced as they continue to report that meat demand is poor. The fact that pig numbers available are below contracted numbers is probably just as well! The EU pig price reported further erosion with the German’s announcing a drop of 3 Euro cents.
Sow prices also fell another 1p which arguably may have been greater but for the exchange rate finishing the week lower than at the end of the previous week.
In the Weaner Market Summary, Thames Valley Cambac reported that other than contracted pigs, very few weaners and stores were offered but what few are available are met with well below the cost of production offers.
