Strides are being made towards a useable vaccine for African swine fever and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in Vietnam was, this week, asked for approval to export.
The AVAC Vietnam Joint Stock Company staff have administered over 600,000 doses to pigs at almost 600 farms and facilities of varying sizes across the country and the NAVETCO Central Veterinary Medicine Joint Stock Company have given over 51,000 doses. Assessments showed the vaccine provided a high level of efficacy and no safety risk, according to a report on Vietnamnet website.
The director of AVAC, Nguyen Van Diep, has asked the Department of Animal Health and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to end the monitoring programme and allow the ASF vaccine to be widely used and exported. The director said the company would take responsibility for producing and supplying high-quality vaccines that meet safety standards, the report said.
Deputy minister of agriculture and rural development, Phung Duc Tien, agreed to remove barriers to allow the products to be brought the market for widespread use and exporting.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will ensure organisations are instructed to actively supervise the vaccination process, the company will then be responsible for testing the quality of all vaccine batches produced.
