AHDB joined a group of exporters at the World Food Expo in the Philippines to showcase British pork products and explore opportunities.
The show, the biggest trade event in the country, saw five UK export companies travel to Manilla and provided a platform for networking with key importers and stakeholders in the market. The aim was to build on existing relationships and develop new contacts and opportunities.
The event followed the launch of AHDB’s Beyond Borders export strategy, aimed at increasing market access and encouraging businesses to export.
In 2022, the UK shipped pork and beef worth a total of £58.5 million to the Philippines – the third largest pork export market for the UK. Jonathan Eckley, AHDB head of international trade development, said: “WOFEX is a key event in the industry calendar in what is an important market for our pork and beef exporters. It has given us the ideal opportunity to host UK exporters in Manila and meet key stakeholders in this important Asian market, and follow up with both existing and potential new clients.
“We enjoyed positive growth in the Philippines last year for UK exports of pork and beef, although the market is currently experiencing a number of challenges. This makes it even more important to showcase the UK meat sectors at events like WOFEX to continue to build the important business relationships and maintain the positive momentum from 2022.”
Further AHDB analysis of export opportunities in the Philippines and the wider Asia region is detailed in AHDB’s Prospects for UK agri-food exports: Asia.
