Three biosecurity seminars focusing on African Swine Fever (ASF) and Porcine Epidemic Diarrhoea (PEDv) are to be run in York, Somerset and Norfolk by BPEX in September.
The seminars will feature a video of US producer Harold Lee of Meadow Hill Farm, Iowa, sharing his experiences of PEDv control.
Other speakers include vet David Chennells, BPEX veterinary advisor Derek Armstrong and the AHVLA, who will advise on surveillance and providing biosecurity.
BPEX welfare projects co-ordinator Georgina Crayford said: “PEDv is threatening us from the US and ASF is spreading across mainland Europe so biosecurity is absolutely vital to provide protection for the British industry.
“An outbreak of either would be devastating, not only for the domestic industry but also for our exports which are now worth some £350m a year.
Seminar details:
- 16 Sept – Bath and West Showground, Shepton Mallet, Somerset
- 17 Sept – Diss Rugby Club, Diss, Norfolk
- 23 Sept – Sandburn Hall, Flaxton, York
