Farmers in Wales are being asked to participate in a country-wide biosecurity survey as part of an industry and government drive to raise awareness of good biosecurity practices and the benefits these can deliver for livestock producers.
Run by the Wales Animal Health and Welfare Framework Group, working in partnership with the Welsh Government, the survey is designed to assess current levels of understanding of biosecurity amongst farmers. The survey will focus, in particular, on the following points:
- current knowledge and understanding of biosecurity,
- what biosecurity practices are currently used on farms, and
- the preferred ways for seeking out and receiving information on biosecurity.
“Biosecurity is essential to reduce disease spread, particularly of highly infectious diseases such as Foot and Mouth Disease,” said the Welsh Government in its latest farm industry newsletter (Gwlad).
“Better biosecurity provides peace of mind, healthy stock and a more viable business.”
The survey, which can be completed online, will remain open until September 18.
