Jason Aldiss has been announced as the new executive director of the Association of Independent Meat Suppliers (AIMS), replacing industry veteran Norman Bagley when he steps down from his current role in January 2025.
Dr Aldiss, currently AIMS’ head of external affairs, was selected after a rigorous selection process, emerging as the ideal candidate from a pool of exceptional individuals, said AIMS chair John Thorley.
“His appointment marks a significant step forward for AIMS, as he will work alongside Norman, the organisation’s founder and current head of policy, to ensure AIMS continues to thrive and grow in the coming years,” Mr Thorley said.
Mr Bagley, a well-known figure in the meat sector for many years, established AIMS in 2001, and has been instrumental in driving the organisation’s success over the past 25 years. Under his leadership, AIMS has become one of the most effective and respected voices within the UK meat industry.
While Mr Bagley has expressed a desire to reduce his day-to-day administrative and management duties, he will remain a vital figure within the association, offering his invaluable insights and experience to members as they navigate the challenges of an ever-evolving industry.
“Dr Aldiss brings over 30 years of experience in the meat industry, having held a variety of senior roles both in the UK and internationally” Mr Bagley said. “He’s well-known and highly respected by members, politicians, regulators, and the wider agri-livestock community, Jason’s extensive background and leadership skills make him the ideal choice to help AIMS continue its robust support of the entire British meat sector.”
Dr Aldiss said he was ‘truly honoured’ to have been selected to succeed Mr Bagley. “I look forward to building on the strong and robust foundation that Norman has established,” he said. “AIMS is renowned for its unwavering commitment to supporting its members, and I am excited to work closely with Norman to ensure that this tradition continues, while also driving new growth and opportunities for the organisation.”
AIMS is the UK’s largest post farm gate trade body representing abattoirs, licensed meat & poultry processors and catering butchers, with membership ranging from SMEs to PLCs. It said it remains committed to its core mission of providing robust representation and advocacy for its members, and with Dr Aldiss at the helm, is ready to navigate its next chapter with confidence and strength.
