Producers have until the end of the month to get themselves signed off as competent to carry out euthanasia on pigs.
The training can be carried out by a vet or any suitably trained and experienced person and staff must be signed off as competent by a vet.
For those who want them, external courses are still available but are not compulsory.
These changes came about in April last year and producers were given 12 months to ensure that their stockmen had been formally trained and assessed as competent to carry out euthanasia.
The requirements for the training can be downloaded by clicking on the link below, or call Red Tractor on 0207 630 3320 for more information.
