A new animal welfare group calling itself the “Animal Welfare Enforcement Agency” is reported to be active in the south of England.
The group recently claimed to police squealing from pigs being loaded was caused by them being kicked by farm staff, but the police quickly realised the producer concerned (an NPA member) had done nothing wrong, and departed – but the episode meant yet another unhelpful headline in a local newspaper.
The NPA has reminded producers that the “Animal Welfare Enforcement Agency” has no official status. “Don’t be misled by titles such as Inspector and Chief Inspector,” it advises, “and don’t allow the organisation onto your premises.
“If you’re visited, please let us know so that we can continue to monitor the activities of groups such as this.”
