Scottish pork processor Robertson’s Fine Foods has landed a £100,000 supply deal with Aldi to place its Ayrshire middle bacon products in the supermarket’s 60 stores across Scotland.
Unveiled at the Royal Highland Show, held near Edinburgh today, the deal was welcomed by Quality Meat Scotland’s chairman, Jim McLaren, as a “great example of Aldi’s innovation and forward-thinking approach”, building on the company’s existing commitment to stocking Specially Selected Pork.
“Today’s announcement sends a very positive signal to the Scottish pig industry and helps to boost awareness of our industry’s excellent welfare credentials as well as reflecting increasing consumer demand for evidence of strong animal welfare.”
The full scale supply deal follows several previous one-off Aldi/Robertson’s bacon promotions which have always delivered “excellent sales results”, according to Aldi’s Scottish buying director, Marion MacCormick (pictured above).
“Every time we’ve put this product in store in the past it has absolutely flown off the shelves,” Ms MacCormick told Pig World, adding that she was delighted to be now moving into the position where product would be available to customers “all day long”.
