Advice on how to extract maximum pigmeat output from every square metre of building space will be one of the key features of the coming series of BPEX regional producer events, set for November and December.
“To optimise profitability, producers need to measure and improve the pigmeat output from every square metre of each unit,” said BPEX lead knowledge transfer manager, Steve Winfield. “You need to make the most out of the fixed resources available.”
In addition to guidance on the use of buildings, the five-meeting series will cover a broad range of issues, from insemination through to sale, with a commitment to offer “practical take-home messages” for people who work with the pigs day-to-day.
“We’ve identified key aspects of pig management from breeding through to finishing where changes can be made to improve output,” said Mr Winfield. “It requires a combination of a number of things; there’s no silver bullet.”
Meeting dates and locations are:
- November 18 – Diss Rugby Club
- November 19 – The Granary, Kidderminster
- November 25 – Wetherby Racecourse
- December 1 – Exeter Rugby Club
- December 2 – Newbury Rugby Club
