A delegation of producers and veterinary specialists from China recently visited the Grayingham Grange pig unit in Lincolnshire to see, for themselves, high-welfare production in action.
The unit is run by AHDB Pork chairman, Meryl Ward, who hosted the visiting party, commenting that they specifically wanted to look at loose-housed sows.
“As they still use sow stalls, we were trying to persuade them of the benefits of loose-housed systems,” she said.
“The visit was instigated by World Animal Protection (WAP) and was a great success. They were very keen to see round and were inquisitive with a constant stream of questions both for me and the unit manager.”
