Danish Crown has told Pig World that the company is looking forward to having a “constructive dialogue” with the Danish competition authorities over its planned merger with Tican.
The merger has been partially referred to the Danish Competition and Consumer Authority (DCCA) by the European Commission (EC), with the comment that the “proposed transaction would threaten to significantly affect competition in certain markets in Denmark”.
The view from inside Danish Crown, however, is that the EC move is no different to what happened during the last major slaughterhouse merger in Denmark.
“The authorities will do their job and we look forward to having a constructive dialogue with them over the next weeks and months,” a Danish Crown spokesman told Pig World, adding that the referral back to the DCCA was seen as a “natural step”.
