The animal feed company, ForFarmers, has strengthened its position in the European pig sector with the acquisition of Vleuten-Steijn, a Dutch business which supplies pig producers in the Netherlands and Germany.
“We believe in a pig sector which will be profitable in the long term,” said ForFarmers Netherlands’ director, Jan Potijk, adding that the latest acquisition fits perfectly with the “necessary consolidation” of the business.
Vleuten-Steijn’s current owners, Bart van der Vleuten and Henk van der Steijn, said they were convinced the acquisition will strengthen their customers’ position, as well as pig farming in general.
“ForFarmers is a very ambitious company, focussed on supplying feed with accompanying advice in a way which is as professional and efficient as possible,” they said.
Vleuten-Steijn generated a turnover of €91m (£76.5m) in 2015 from the sale of approximately 295,000 tonnes of feed, supplied mostly to larger companies in the pig sector in the Netherlands and Germany.
