Peter Crichton reports a successful auction with every lot sold when outdoor pig equipment from Roger Newton’s North Farm Livestock was sold at Crostwick, Norfolk, on September 27.
More than 680 lots came under the hammer and were sold in just 105 minutes. Prices were firm for all items, according to condition, and the sale was headed by an excellent selection of 73 two-year-old John Harvey uninsulated farrowing arcs that sold for between £180 and £255 each, to average £224.
Older farrowing arcs also met a ready enquiry but at significantly less money, selling at up to £40 each, with other from £30 downwards.
Dry sow arcs were in mixed condition and had, in many cases, been well used or repaired; they sold to a top price of £190 for five-ring arcs, with other similar arcs in reasonable condition selling for between £80 and £170. Those in need of further repair made less than this.
A useful selection of fenders, that included 72 two-year-old John Harvey types, sold well within a narrow £60-65 price band.
Wallows and troughs met with plenty of enquiry with the deep wallows selling to £130 each, galvanised wallows between £55 and £58 each. Double-ended 4ft galvanised drinking troughs attracted bids between £45 and £55 each.
Machinery and other equipment included three Richard Western converted 6/8-tonne tipping feed trailers selling for between £1,650 and £1,780. Marston high-lift 6/8-tonne feed trailers sold to £2,750 and an 4-tonne Peter Allen Rotafeeder made £3,700.
Other trailers included individual sow feed trailers at £900, straw trailers made £800, £920 and £1,200 and a high-tip tandem axle trailer £1,820.
