The BBC’s Farming Today programme is taking a week-long look at the British pig industry, kicking off this morning with an extended interview with Pig World editor, Alistair Driver.
Key topics covered during the programme’s lead item, included the impact of Brexit on producer incomes and prospects, particularly looking at the current effect of Sterling/euro exchange rates on pig prices and costs.
The Brexit debate also covered the pig sector’s longer-term concerns over future labour issues, once the UK leaves the EU.
Farming Today also raised the question of how the pig sector is addressing antimicrobial resistance, seeking an assessment of how the industry is responding to the current high profile debate generated by the issue.
