Mermaid, who happens to be a splendid representative of the oldest recorded breed of pig in Britain, was the star of this morning’s pig industry focus on the BBC’s Farming Today programme.
Having run a wide-ranging series on the British pig industry throughout this week, today’s programme included an interview with Mermaid’s owner, Sue Fildes of Dittisham Farm, near Dartmouth, Devon.
Mermaid is a Berkshire, of course, a breed which first emerged in the 18th century but which is now an extremely popular choice by consumers in Japan.
