The current growth and future potential of Scotland’s pig industry led this morning’s pig sector focus on the BBC’s Farming Today programme which is taking a week-long look at the British pig industry.
Picking up on the recent completion and official opening of Scotland’s specialist pig abattoir at Brechin, the programme featured an interview with Scottish Pig Producers’ chief executive, Andy McGowan (pictured above), who voiced his optimism for the further expansion of the country’s pig herd.
Today’s programme also featured a second pig industry item, focusing attention on production and welfare issues through an interview with the “Farms Not Factories” organisation’s director, Tracy Worcester.
