The chief executive of ForFarmers Group, Yoram Knoop, has suggested the pig industry will be a central element of the company’s growth plans in the UK, writes Pig World editor Graeme Kirk.
Speaking at a press conference to outline the company’s strategy at EuroTier, Mr Knoop said that with the UK pig herd only 60% self-sufficient, there was plenty of scope for producers to increase production to meet the demand from the retail sector for British pork.
And while the UK represented 32% of ForFarmers Group sales, the company’s UK market share for compound feeds allowed plenty of room for growth – with pig producers a prime target.
“The UK pig sector is highly attractive as producers are keen to match the production levels that are being achieved on the Continent and that fits well with ForFarmers’ aim of providing a more consultative approach and supplying tailored products,” he said. “We want to help British pig producers to grow and help them build their industry.”
