Karro Food Group is investing £500,000 to upgrade the main processing line at its Malton site.
The investment will improve the hair removal process in the pig processing chain, helping to deliver consistently high-quality finished product to Karro’s customers. This will create production efficiencies and a reduction in energy use for Karro and will result in the business having a system that’s best in class in the meat industry.
The installation work will take place over three or four long weekends with only four kill days in the affected weeks. The firm says it should be able to maintain kill numbers in the weeks the new kit is being installed.
The upgrade comes as part of an ongoing review of manufacturing operations to identify areas of the process that can be improved.
The executive chairwoman at Karro Food Group, Di Walker, said the company reviewed its processing practices on an ongoing basis.
“We’re committed to investing in technology and techniques to improve the way that we operate and are able to service our valued customers,” she added. “At Karro, we believe it’s very important to working closely with the farmers on our doorstep in Yorkshire and we hope this further investment into our Malton site shows our commitment to our operation in the region.”
