A new online tool to support farmers in making “informed choices” has been launched by the European Commission (EC), including a 16-page unit covering pigmeat.
Called “agriculture dashboards”, the EC initiative is designed to provide farmers with access to “all available market data” for individual sectors, through a single online location.
“The EU agri-food sector is ready to meet the growing world demand,” EU farm commissioner Phil Hogan told agriculture ministers, meeting in Brussels today. “Our challenge as policymakers is to give our farmers and agri-business the tools and freedom to be all they can be.”
The dashboards cover five different sectors: dairy, beef, cereals, pigmeat and poultry, with the EC stating that each page will be updated on an “almost daily” basis with the latest national, European and international data.
The pigmeat dashboard includes a wealth of production, pricing and trading information.
