Pigs have been rolled into this trading week as a result of ‘inefficient factories caused by breakdowns and staffing issues’ last week, according to Thames Valley Cambac.
“Demand remained strong from most of the major processors and all pigs were placed. There was little improvement in supplies with most average weights trending lower,” TVC said in its latest market update.
Contract price contributions stood on, but contract prices increased on the back of other market fundamentals, as the fresh meat market remained buoyant with decent demand reported from most outlets.
The cull sow market stood on price-wise, but European markets remained volatile with France and Spain seeing significant reverses. Prices quotes in sterling were enhanced slightly by a stronger Euro that ended the week up 0.05p at 86p.
Weaner demand continued to struggle with little interest for any supplies outside regular movements and prices were subdued as a result. AHDB announced a weighted average 7kg weaner price of £38.76, but there was no 30kg store quote.
