UK pork exporters will be given a prominent place within the AHDB Exports pavilion at next month’s massive SIAL China international trade event in Shanghai.
“We will be hosting a number of UK pork exporters on the pavilion with individual meeting booths being provided as required,” AHDB’s export specialist, Jonathan Eckley, told Pig World, adding that British pork samples will also be cooked on the stand to showcase the product.
“The stand will provide a platform for companies to host existing contacts from the region and the opportunity to meet many new contacts at this important event.”
Billed as Asia’s largest annual food innovation exhibition, SIAL China 2016 will welcome 2,900 exhibitors and 66,000 professional visitors to the Shanghai expo centre from May 5 to 7, with the meat hall being the largest individual sector.
As a result, UK pork exporters will find themselves in competition with an increased sector involvement from Latin America with SIAL China reporting a particularly “large growth” in the number of Brazilian meat exporters who have booked stand space, including the Brazilian association promoting pork and poultry.
The event’s European meat area is also reported to be “growing as well” with AHDB’s presence set alongside national pavilions from Belgium, France, Denmark, Germany, Ireland, Netherlands, Poland and Spain.
