Suffolk-based pork processor C&K Meats has entered into a joint partnership with Peddars Pigs, the Norfolk-based outdoor pig business.
Through the deal, C&K, which became part of CPC Foods and German international food company Tönnies in 2019, has become the latest UK pork processor to own its own finishing and breeding pigs.
A spokesperson representing both businesses said: “We are delighted to confirm that CPC Foods and Peddars Pigs have entered into a joint venture that will focus on the breeding and finishing of pigs.
“Our two businesses have already forged a long and successful relationship and this agreement will only serve to further enhance our farm-to-fork strategy.”
The new venture will see C&K/CPC Foods and Peddars Pigs take equal ownership in all existing pig farming activities Peddars Pigs currently operates. The spokesperson said there will be no impact on jobs, with all current management and employees of Peddars Pigs remaining in place to continue their outstanding work.
“We are all truly focused on delivering our goals around product quality, industry sustainability and traceability and this official partnership will only strengthen our position to achieve that,” the spokesperson added.
On its website, C&K highlights its close working partnerships with local farmers and its ‘great pride’ in its high animal welfare standards. The company’s wholesale business supplies a range of pork products to butchers, wholesalers, manufacturers and food service, locally, nationally and worldwide. It has export customers in Europe, Hong Kong, Philippines, Japan, South Africa and Chile.
Peddars Pigs had been one of the largest remaining independent pig production businesses, and the deal further shifts the balance between processor-owned pigs and those run by independent pig businesses.
