Plans to extend Cranswick Country Foods’ East Yorkshire pig abattoir have been approved, despite some objections from local residents.
The firm has been given the go-ahead to build an extension to its facility in Preston, after the council voted on Monday to approve the plans.
.Residents had complained the extension would cause more noise and smell, but a representative of Cranswick Foods told the council the extension was “minor in relationship to the overall site development”.
Cranswick’s representative claimed the company was worth £200m to the local economy. He told the Hull Daily Mail: “The application made will give us the opportunity to address noise and other issues raised. We are committed to the Preston area in the long term and we offer economic support to the East Riding.”
