Farming Minister Mark Spencer will address the Pigs Tomorrow Conference, which will take place in Leicestershire in May.
The Minister will deliver his speech via video conference as Defra’s pork supply chain review is discussed on day one of the two-day event.
The International Outlook Conference
The International Outlook Conference on the first day will delve into the bigger picture of how global markets and trends are shaping the sector.
It will begin with an overview from Rupert Claxton, meat director at industry analysts Gira, a leading expert in the global meat market, with a special interest in the Asian sector.
There will also be presentations from Spain, by Isaac Huerta, PIC’s technical services manager (west and south region), based in Catalonia, and from Denmark by Fink Hansen, a director at SEGES Danish Pig Research Centre.
The focus will then switch to the UK, including Mr Spencer’s views on the pork supply chain review, followed by a wider discussion covering the supply chain.

This will feature will different perspectives on the pig sector, including leading agriculture PR specialist Amy Jackson and well-known industry analyst Dominic Charman.
A critical subject for the pig sector this will cover the language we use to describe the industry and whether we are maximising the opportunities presented by the British pig sector’s high welfare systems.
As announced last month, we will also be bringing together some of the pig industry’s future stars in a ‘Young Guns’ session exploring how they see the future of the pig sector. Participants include, Young NPA vice-chair Flavian Obiero and three young producers recognised in the 2022 National Pig Awards winners Fred Allen, Max Campbell and Emma Claxton.
There will be a session on the opportunities available for pig producers via the Animal Health and Welfare Pathway.
